We’re Booked!

Day 96 in my dash to Disney and Mickey

What shall I post about today…hmmm…what’s new and exciting around here?   GAH!

Today’s plan was to call Member Services at Disney Vacation Club and book rooms at Disney’s Old Key West Resort for our trip in October.  AND I DID!  WOOP!  We are booked for a 3-bedroom grand villa for 8 glorious nights.  The villa has a full kitchen, dining room, living room, the aforementioned 3 bedrooms with 3 accompanying full bathrooms,  washer, dryer and a hot tub.  Personally, I think we should just move there.  🙂

Man, I am so excited.  I made sure to only drink one cup of decaf today.  I have had no caffeinated food or beverages today, and I am still all jacked up.  This stuff is gettin’ real!  Woo hoo!

Harsh Realities and Happy Planning

Day 81 in my migration toward meeting Mickey

Well, I danced like no one was watching last night.  It was fun…and tiring, but it was good to do it.

I don’t know how hard is too hard to push myself physically.  As soon as I push through the pain to walk further, my hip starts aching something fierce, my knees start snapping at me, my back throws in the towel and my upset stomach rears up.   I end up so sore and feeling so lousy that I am absolutely discouraged, so I end up taking several days to recover enough to be able to do it again.  I haven’t “listened” to my body for years.  Now I am hearing it loud clear.  And it is saying, “Slow and easy wins the race.  Rome (nor this gargantuan body) wasn’t built in a day.  Patience is a virtue.”  I know, right?  My body speaks in clichés…who knew?  But it is very clear to me that I need to take it slowly.

So today’s plan is to spend some time putting together our dates for the trip to Walt Disney World.

  1. What date can I call and book our rooms at Old Key West (11 months prior to check-in)?
  2. What date do I make our dinner/lunch reservations?  (180 days prior to check-in)?
  3. What date do I book Mickey’s-Not-So-Scary Halloween tickets?
  4. What date do I reserve our Magical Express ride from the airport to Old Key West and back?
  5. When do I purchase my Tables in Wonderland discount card?  (A discount dining perk that saves 20% on most meals)
  6. When do I register for my Fastpass+ choices? (60 days prior to check-in?)
  7. When shall I book our flights?

Much to do, but it’ll be fun research while I wait for my spine to quick clicking when I walk.  This getting older is not for the faint of heart.  🙂

Recommitment to Change

Day 65 in my  trek toward Mickey

Holy wah!  One year from today, Lord willing and the creek don’t rise, we will be at Old Key West in the heart of Disney World.  I have twelve months to get to a healthier state.   So today I am recommitting myself to a healthier lifestyle.

  1. Stay sugar-free
  2. Walk more and further
  3.  Plan healthy, nutritious meals
  4. Keep blogging

My plan for today is to work out our menu for the week and make up a store list.  I am completely pooped out from our trip to the UP.   (Which was fantastic!!!)  AND Emi, my daughter, leaves back for home in England today.  So, this is what I call a low energy kind of day.

But tomorrow I plan to hit the ground running…well, walking.  🙂

Disney Vacation Club Fun

Day 32 in my quest to meet up with Mickey

Today is a sopping wet, gray day here in Lake Bluff.  We are promised severe thunder storms later on today.  It’s a morning that has spawned tornadoes and flooding throughout the Midwest.

If I had my way, my plan for today would be to read and nap the day away.  However, I don’t see how that would get me ready for our Walt Disney World trip in October 2015.  So, here’s my plan: to try to reverse some of the negative energy that is pressing on me today, I will do Tai Chi after work.  Then to work my arms a bit extra, I will do my Shake Weight.  (tee hee: see previous blog entries about Shake Weight)

We are members of the Disney Vacation Club, and we love, love, love it!!  Old Key West has become our home away from home.  With 150 points Mike and I and the kids/spouses can go to Florida every three years and stay in a three bedroom Grand Villa in the heart of Walt Disney World for over a week.  Woo hoo!  I thought it was 7 nights, but I realized yesterday in looking more closely at our points that even though we used a few points this year, we can still stay for 8 nights/9days when we go.  I am so-o-o jacked!!

And so it goes, dear readers.  Meet you at the Kingdom!

Better Choices

Day 22 of dancing toward Disney

Here’s today’s plan: I would like pancakes with lots of syrup and butter for breakfast.  But today I am having an egg-white omelet loaded with spinach, mushrooms, roasted red peppers and a little low-fat mozzarella cheese, served with fruit and a piece of rye toast.  I won’t regret the flavor, and I will remain sugar-free today.  I can do that just for today.

Then I will shop for the healthy, low-fat, low-sodium, sugar-free ingredients to prepare our new recipes for the week.

I thought eating this way would be so bland, but Mike and I have found the opposite to be true.  We are thoroughly enjoying the natural flavors of foods.  And we find ourselves really looking forward to dinner-time and our chance to just sit and taste the new recipes.  Who knew?

Today’s particular Disney dream?  Sitting at Olivia’s Cafe at Old Key West with Mike and the kids, sipping  a cup of coffee and nibbling conch fritters.  I can just feel the stress leaving my body thinking about it.

Meet you at the Kingdom!

BTW: In only two more weeks, I will have made my original commitment of five weeks sugar-free.  Who’d a thunk?

Nothing new or fancy

Day 18 on my way to rendezvous with Mickey.  🙂

Well, folks, the title says it all.  Here’s the plan: nothing new or fancy today.  I will eat healthy today.  I will avoid sugar today.  I will move more at work today.

You know, moving this much weight through space is no small task.  (Please, excuse the pun.)  My former work partner once told me, “They say you should do some sort of weight bearing exercise each day.  Well, moving this body through space is weight bearing exercise.”  I laughed out loud.  But it makes you think.  I know I have to move more to get the energy to move more to get the energy to move more.  Wait…what?  It’s an odd thing really.  When we move more, we draw oxygen deeper into our bodies/systems, and it gives us more energy, more oomph.  I WANT more oomph.

I want enough oomph to stroll the trails at Old Key West, to walk at Disney’s Animal Kingdom without being immediately exhausted, to walk all the way from the bus, to and through, Cinderella’s Castle at the Magic Kingdom.  Maybe even straight to It’s a Small World.  Do not pass go; do not collect $200.  I love this big Disney dreaming.  I’m willing to work as hard as I have to, to make these dreams/visions come true.

Thank you, Mouse-fans, Disneyphiles and Donna supporters, for reading.  Meet you at the Kingdom!

Recipes for Success

“Welcome home.”  These are the words that greet us as we check in at Old Key West, our timeshare (sort of) at Walt Disney World.  This morning I long for those words.  I’m a little sore, a little tired, a little uninspired; however, I am not discouraged.  I chalk it up to coming down off of my long-term sugar high.  I am low-energy today.  So I will be gentle with myself.

When I spoke with my health coach last Thursday, we came up with two goals for the next three weeks.

  1. For every hour that I sit, I will get up and move for 5 minutes.
  2. I will research and prepare new sugar-free recipes for dinner for Mike and I.

Yesterday I accomplished # 1 and will continue in that vein today.

Today here’s the plan: I will research sugar-free recipes online and find 4 new recipes.  I will print them.  I will prepare a grocery list to shop for needed items tomorrow.  AND I will cull some of the UNhealthy, sugary food from my pantry.  (I ate most of it before I started all of this last Monday.)  🙂  But I still have some cereal and bread where sugar is the second or third ingredient listed.  Since the ingredients are listed by volume (or is it weight?  I’ll look that up.), I want sugar no higher than four on that list.

It’s been a busy work week, dear readers, both at the office and at home, so let’s be gentle on ourselves today and do something fun.

Meet you at the Kingdom.
