Of Relatives and Food

Day 361 in my rolling toward Mickey

Today we packed up the car and headed north. You’d think we were going for a month rather than the five days we’ll be away. 😄 We have our two suitcases, a guitar, a string bass, music books, two sizes of plates, napkins, forks, spoons, knives, and a plethora of other things. We’re headed to a family reunion. There will be food, music and cousins as far as the eye can see. I’m so excited!!

My goal today is to stay sugar-free and to choose a healthy meal when we eat out tonight. We will dine at Grazie’s in Green Bay. They have the very best cheese curds. We always order some, but tonight I want to resist them and order a big salad instead. I feel the need for veggies. 😉

Work and Play

Day 360 in working toward a healthier me to meet Mickey

  1. Today’s plan was to up the physical activity factor at work today.  New carpet is being put in my office on Monday.  Mike and I are leaving town tomorrow evening (Thursday) for a family reunion in Michigan.  So I have been purging and moving things out of the office most of today.  My neck is sore, my back is bit achy, even my wrists and ankles are complaining.  🙂  But I have been VERY physically active today.  And, thanks to my rescue inhaler, I haven’t gotten out of breath and wheezy.  Yay!  I’m liking this new me, and I’ll like it even better when I am moving around more.
  2. On a side note: Be Our Guest, a restaurant at Magic Kingdom, opened reservations today for breakfast.  They used to only serve lunch and dinner.  I thought, “Great!  We can change our reservation for there rather than Crystal Palace, since we’ve already eaten breakfast at Crystal Palace.  We’ll try something new.”  Well, I should have been online at 6:00 am, but I didn’t remember until 9:00 am, so guess what…no reservations available.  Figures.  It’s a good things we like Crystal Palace.

Breathing Easy

Day 359 on my way to a healthier me when I meet Mickey

Today I went and had a pulmonary function test. I’ve been a little freaked out since an x-ray taken just before my cancer surgery showed that I have COPD.  I have been struggling to get a deep breath since my surgery, but my doctor prescribed a rescue inhaler and it’s been much better since then. The tech running the test said I did very well, and there is a good chance that it’s not COPD at all.  The pulmonologist  has to look at the results, but I’m going to hang on to my positive thoughts unless I hear otherwise.

So I am imagining myself happily walking around Walt Disney World whistling a happy tune (probably it’s a small world).  😄🎈🎉

Ten Minutes and Thirty Seconds of Peace and Good Will

Day 358 in my contemplations on meeting Mickey

According to DIS at wdwinfo.com: it’s a small world–Ride Length: 10 minutes, 30 seconds

“The “legend” has it that if you ride it’s a small world at Disney World, the song will stay in your head forever, it’s a small world after all.  A lot of people claim this ride is just a cliché or is “just for kids.”  People will tell you that they avoid it like the plague. These are the same people that will turn around and moan that the Carousel of Progress should be saved, or that they never should have taken out Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. Their reasoning is that these are Walt Disney’s Legacy…Let’s talk about that. Many of the older, or original if you prefer, attractions at Disneyland and Disney World have Walt’s touch. Walt and his team of Imagineers, led by artist and designer Mary Blair, created it’s a small world as tribute to the children of the world for the UNICEF pavilion at the 1964/65 World’s Fair. The Sherman Brothers, responsible for a big chunk of Disney music (ex. Mary Poppins) originally wrote the theme song as a ballad. Legend has it that Walt told them he needed something “peppy” that would last throughout the ride. “

it’s a small world is my favorite ride.  When I get to Walt Disney World, riding this ride is my sign that I can exhale and really begin my vacation.  It has always been my favorite ride here.  On our fourth trip to Walt Disney World, which was our second trip as Disney Vacation Club members, we invited my mom and dad and Mike’s mom along.  My dad was enjoying the vacation, but not really showing excitement about anything.  Then we rode it’s a small world, and everything changed.  As soon as we got off the ride he asked to go again.  🙂  And then on our last day of that trip, I asked my dad what he would like to do on his last day of this vacation.  His response?  “I want to go on it’s a small world.”  That cemented it for me.  It is now and will always be my favorite Walt Disney World attraction.

Getting Ready

Day 357 in my journey to meet Mickey

This is a weekend of getting ready to attend a Taskila family reunion next weekend.  My niece is coming into town today (yay!) and will stay overnight.  Today will be dedicated to visiting with her, her significant other and her two puppies.  (It will mean major trauma for Mary Ann, our kitty.  but her life is too sedate with just Mike and I.)  🙂

Tomorrow morning Mike and I play in church.  After church, I’ll come home and get my proverbial ducks in a row.  I’ll get some laundry done, start packing, gather all the bits and pieces that I picked up to bring (two sizes of plates, forks, spoons, knives, napkins), plus we will bring Mike’s guitar and bass.  We will visit the U.P. (Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where Mike and I were born and raised) for four nights.  We want to see as much family as possible.

So I won’t post tomorrow.  Meet you at the Kingdom!

Just an Everyday

Day 356 in making my way to Mickey

No big plan today.  I picked three Vacation Bible School food requests from a board at church today.  So on the way home from work, I stopped at Heinen’s to pick up those groceries plus a few more things that I needed for home.

Then I went home and pretty much crashed for a couple of hours.  The nap was just the thing!  I feel much better now.

A Lovely Evening Booked

Day 355 in my early morning efforts to meet Mickey in October

Today’s plan was to be calling Disney Vacation Club at 8:00 am (9:00 am EST).  This morning I could book an Eat to the Beat Dinner Package at EPCOT while we are in Florida.  I was able to get through right away, so Mike and I are booked for a 5:30 dinner at Rose and Crown Pub, then we have seats reserved for an 8:00 pm Air Supply concert.

All Out of Love, Making Love Out of Nothing at All, Lost in Love, The One That You Love, Here I Am, Even the Nights are Better. Every Woman in the World  So many love songs, so little time.  🙂  It will be a lovely evening with my favorite guy.  Then at 9:00 pm Illuminations, EPCOT‘s fireworks/laser light show.  *sigh*

Meet you at the Kingdom!

BTW: I could have called as early at 6:00 am, because the reservations opened at 7:00 am EST this morning.  I didn’t realize that until I had made my call.  Oh well, all’s well that ends well.

Dinner and Air Supply

Day 354 in my juggling plans for meeting Mickey in October (2 months and 14 days to go)

Today I took another look at our vacation plans. I had chosen the Parisian Breakfast for a special treat for Mike and I, but I didn’t feel a peace about it.  Whenever I thought about it, I kinda got a knot in my stomach. So I prayed about it and decided to look again. The thing that kept rising to the top is an Eat to the Beat dinner/concert package. I found one which puts us having dinner at Rose and Crown Pub and then getting priority seating for Air Supply.  And we can still have a lovely lazy morning and not head to EPCOT until around 3:00 pm.

Tomorrow is the first day to book this event. I’ll be up bright and early to try to book it.  I’ll let you know how it goes for me.

Slowly Tackling FastPass+

Day 353 in figuring my way to Mickey

Today I attempted to put together FastPass+ options for our five days in the Walt Disney World parks in October.  It’s no easy task. You have to figure in the distance between attractions and account for any dining plans.  I’m not sure they let you pick specific times or a specific order of attractions. I won’t know until I try to make the actual FastPass+ picks on August 14th. Anyway I spent some time studying it today. It’s kinda complicated.  And the two tier system at EPCOT and Disney Hollywood Studios is a real drag!  At the Magic Kingdom and the Animal Kingdom, they just give you a list of all the eligible rides and you pick any three. But at EPCOT and Hollywood Studios you have to pick only one ride from tier one (Do we pick Soarin’ or Test Track?  Do we pick Rockin’ Roller Coaster or Toy Story Mania?).  Then you have to pick your other two choices from tier two, the less popular rides. Me no likey!!

Remember the days when we could just get in line and hit any attraction we wanted? *sigh*

Garden Grocer

Day 352 in planning to enjoy meeting up with Mickey (2 months and 16 days to go)

Today my plan was to place the order for groceries to be delivered to Old Key West on the day we arrive.  I downloaded the app for Garden Grocer.  The six of us traveling to Walt Disney World in October put our heads together and came up with a grocery list.  I had the list on my Garden Grocer app, so I sent it in today.  They called me back within half an hour to confirm that they have the order, and it will be delivered to Bell Services at Old Key West on Tuesday, October 13, sometime between 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm.  Then they’ll call me when it has been delivered to the resort, so I can contact Bell Services and arrange for delivery to our room.

We plan to have three sit down dinners in our villa.  We have a full kitchen and a table with 12 chairs to use so it should be quite nice.  The rest of our meals at the villa will be catch as catch can.  A bowl of cereal in the morning, a hot dog for lunch, etc…  It’s a nice set up as a home away from home.

I am getting so excited!  Meet you at the Kingdom!
