Love, Tears and Thankfulness

Today was our last full day at Disney’s Old Key West Resort. We had tickets for a park, but only Jake went in today. He chose Disney’s Hollywood Studio so he could ride Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, his favorite ride. As he entered the gate who should he see waiting there? Daniel Carlson, a dear family friend! What are the chances?? They chatted for a bit as Daniel waited for his friends to show up. Incredible! It’s a God thing.

The rest of us stayed at the resort to chill and begin packing. Ida seemed to have a low-grade fever and Linnie is still recovering from the flu. It was a nice low key day.

Then it was time for Emi, James and Ida to catch the bus to the airport. With plenty of hugs and tears to go around, I thanked God for this time together. I’ll be looking forward to our next time together, perhaps as soon as March.

Mike, Jake, Eliza, Linnie and I wandered up to Turtle Krawl for dinner. With burgers, chili dogs, and pulled pork sandwiches for dinner from Good’s Food to Go and drinks from Gurgling Suitcase we whiled away the hours in the warm evening Florida breezes. It was a perfect ending to an emotional day.

Well, Dear Readers, I am one Disney-exhausted camper. So delighted for this incredible adventure. And yet ready to go home tomorrow. Home, where Mary Ann, our kitty cat, waits for me.

Until the next time…meet me at the Kingdom.

Magnificent Minnie!

We are tired out! Emi, James, Ida and I opted out of our Fastpasses today and relaxed at Old Key West. Mike went in to Disney’s Hollywood Studio early on his own and walked around, until Jake, Eliza and Linnie showed up. They went to The Little Mermaid and Toy Story Mania!

The rest of us showed up in time for Minnie’s Halloween Dinner at Hollywood and Vine restaurant. It was a blast, and Ida finally warmed up to the characters, especially Minnie Mouse. As we posed with Minnie at the entry Ida kept saying, “She’s very gentle and kind,” to herself as a mantra. I can’t recommend this buffet dinner enough. The food was so delicious, and the characters all made sure to visit each table.

Linnie ended up seeing a nurse at the park and had a bit of a fever so they took her back to the resort to chill out. She seems to be doing a little bit better tonight, and the fever has broken.

What a busy, busy day!

Meet me at the Kingdom.

Final Vacation Itinerary

Gosh! There are only five days now until we head for Walt Disney World. Our itinerary (see below) looks very busy, but actually it gives us plenty of time to chill out by the pool at Old Key West, or head to Disney Springs to wander and shop and nosh. Today I will do laundry, so I can get my clothes into the suitcase and be mostly packed to go. I have so much stuff in my huge suitcase, that Mike may need to pack some of my clothes. But that means I’ll have plenty of room once I unload everything at our villa. My suitcase will be much lighter on the way home. 🙂

FastPass+ Anticipation

We head to Walt Disney World in just 65 days. This means I’m just five days away from scheduling our FastPass+es. We are choosing kid friendly rides so the grandkids can go on them. Rides/attractions like Dumbo the Flying Elephant and Peter Pan’s Flight, Na’vi River Journey and Festival of the Lion King, Frozen Ever After and The Seas with Nemo and Friends, Toy Story Mania and Voyage of the Little Mermaid.

I sure hope we get them all. Although my favorite thing for this trip will be sitting in the same general area as Mike, the kids, their spouses and the grandkids. What a joy it will be! I’m especially looking forward to hanging out at the pool together at Disney’s Old Key West Resort. Ahh… Instant stress relief.

Meet you at the Kingdom.

Dining Changes

Just 69 days until our trip to Walt Disney World. Woo hoo! By the time we go, it will have been three years for me, Mike, Jake and Eliza. It will have been six years for Emi and James. And this will be the first time for Ida and Elinor. We’ll have to get them their free “First Time Visitor” buttons  when we get there. 🙂

Today I made a few dining changes to our schedule. It turns out that Minnie’s Halloween Dine is happening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios while we’re there. According to the Disney website: “Visit Minnie’s favorite happy haunt for a spooktacular Halloween feast that’s frightfully delightful.” Minnie Mouse just happens to be one of Ida’s favorites, so I booked us in and canceled our reservation at Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano. Then since we have more than enough character dining experiences, I canceled our Donald’s Safari Buffet at Tusker House in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. In its place I booked us in at Yak & Yeti Restaurant. (They have an amazing Mango Pie with shortbread cookie crust, whipped topping and raspberry sauce. And I hear delicious things about their Fried Wontons, which are skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream with honey-vanilla drizzle.) Yum!

I haven’t been eating sugar, so I am looking forward to a few sugary treats when we are on vacation. But we tend to order just two desserts and six forks/spoons. Just a taste is plenty and so satisfying when you’ve been sugar-free. My weight is back to just below my lowest point since my stroke. Now to just keep eating well and taking my daily walks.

Meet you at the Kingdom!

Only so many Fastpass+es are available per day. Our travel agent will attempt to schedule our Fastpass+es for us. Better her than me! I picked Fastpasses that the grandbabies can take part in. These are the ones we hope to get:

Fastpass+ Frustration!

Day 424  in my fuming frustration on the way to meeting Mickey (6 days to go)

OK, so here’s the deal.  I got online at 11:00 pm last night (midnight EST) and attempted to select my FastPass+ choices for our December trip to Walt Disney World.  We are staying at Disney’s All Star Sports Resort for three nights.  Now the Disney spiel says that if you are staying on property, then you can book your FastPass+ choices 60 days in advance of your check-in date.  Since today is 60 days from our check-in I went for it.  It would only let me select Fastpass+ choices for two days, instead of three.  Man!  I was so frustrated!  So I called Disney today, and I was told that I had to purchase park tickets in order to book FassPass+.  And the nice lady that I spoke with said, “Im surprised it let you book any days without purchasing tickets!”  Now that is not at all clear on the Disney website.

Here’s what undercovertourist.com has to say about it: “FastPass+ is Disney’s reservation system that allows guests to book advance reservations for experiences and attractions in the park. Guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel can make FastPass+ reservations up to 60 days in advance of check-in for their entire length of stay, while guests staying offsite can make reservations up to 30 days in advance of each day of their theme park visit. “

See? It says nothing about it being tied to ticket purchase.  Sheesh!

Anyway today I ordered our park tickets and now we have Fastpass+ in place for three days.  Here’s what we got:

  1. December 6–Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Fantasmic!
  2. December 7–Living with the Land, Spaceship Earth, Journey Into Imagination with Figment
  3. December 8–The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Whew! Mischief managed.  Meet you at the Kingdom!

December Disney Duties

Day 423 in planning my way to meeting up with Mickey (7 days to go!!!!!!!)

Today there are two December Disney-trip related duties.

  1. I made a reservation for Mike and I to have breakfast at Boma which is located at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Here’s what DIS Dining has to say about it: “Boma – Flavors of Africa is one of the more unique dining experiences found in Walt Disney World, where the spirit of Africa comes alive. It is an open and natural space surrounded by a kraal-style fence made of sticks. This Boma provides a safe and sheltered area in the bush….The focus is on fresh ingredients with an extensive selection of items influenced by the cuisine of over 50 African countries. The wood-burning grill and rotisserie add to the tantalizing aroma. You’ll dine under thatched roofs while viewing the talented chefs in the open kitchen. Spacious and lively, Boma has become one of the more popular resort dining venues. Anticipate the best in African hospitality.”
We have never been to Animal Kingdom Lodge, but from photos I’ve seen it looks absolutely beautiful.  Since we aren’t going into a park until at least 4:00 pm (Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party) one day, we will meander over for breakfast and snoop around the place.  Here’s the breakfast menu: “Breakfast Buffet – Fresh Fruit, African Pastries, Corned Beef Hash, Omelets, Pancakes, French Toast, Bread Pudding, Pap and Chakalaka, Turkey Bobotie, Hand-carved Breakfast Ham, Hand-carved Turkey, Hand-carved Corned Beef.”  Yum!I  have no idea whatsoever what they are, but I absolutely have to try Pap and Chakalaka and Turkey Bobotie.  🙂
  2. Tonight at 11:01 pm I will go online and book our FastPass+ picks for the December trip. Here’s what I hope to get. Day 1: Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, The Great Movie Ride and Fantasmic!  Day 2: Living with the Land, Spaceship Earth and Journey Into Imagination with Figment.  Day 3: Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas Parade and Holiday Wishes: Celebrate the Spirit of the Season.

So that’s my scoop for today.  Thanks for reading.  Meet you at the Kingdom!

Pressing On

Day 411 in sweating it out to meet up with Mickey (19 days to go…only 19!!!)

Why is it so difficult to do the right thing?  I woke up early this morning to walk.  This is my fourth day in a row to do so.  Hardly earth shattering, right?  I swear, it was such hard work today.  I tried visualizing walking toward Cinderella’s Castle at Magic Kingdom.  No good.  I tried changing locale and visualized walking down Hollywood Boulevard toward The Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  No good.  So I imagined walking from the bus stop toward Spaceship Earth at EPCOT.  Nope!  It was just exhausting.

BUT, Dear Readers, I did manage to push on and even walked a little farther than yesterday.  I was listening to Sabrina Carpenter on my iPhone, who is on the Disney Channel show Girl Meets World.  She has a song called The Middle of Starting Over which seems to be my anthem (my jam) just now.  I know the song is about falling in love, but it is so catchy and has such a great hook that I cannot resist it.  🙂  And with this exercise thing, post cancer diagnosis and treatment, I am in the middle of starting over.

So I will not be discouraged.  I will not stop my daily walks.  (Lord, willing and the creek don’t rise!)  I will persevere, for in only 19 days we fly to Orlando and our lovely time share at Disney’s Old Key West Resort.  I hope to get the chance to take a swim that first evening.  It would be bliss!

Why is it so difficult to do the right thing?  Because it just is, or as my mom would have said to me, “Do it because I said so!”  Please pray for me to have the stamina to see it through, Friends.  Meet you at the Kingdom!

The Merry and Bright Dessert Party

Day 410 in taking better care of myself to meet up with Mickey in just 20 days

Today I booked The Merry and Bright Dessert Party at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for Mike and I in December.  This is a brand new, one year only event. Here is what touringplans.com has to say about the event:  “The Merry & Bright Dessert Party will include holiday-themed desserts, specialty alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, sodas, water, tea and coffee. The Dessert Party will take place from November 6 through December 24 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and on December 25-30 from 8:30 p.m. through 10:00 p.m.  Each guest in the party will receive a keepsake roll-up stadium blanket.  Guests will be able to enjoy the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights from a reserved location at the end of the Streets of America near the entrance to Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show.”

This is the last year for the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney World.  Those of you who have seen these lights know how absolutely amazing they are.  Those who have not seen it?  It is impossible to imagine, and it is stunning.  I’m so glad that Mike and I will get to see it one last time.

AND I woke up early and walked this morning, stayed sugar-free today, ate healthily and had my three-tooth bridge re-cemented at the dentist’s.  So…today I have been a good steward of this body God gave me.  PTL!
