Dunkin Donuts Blues

Day 384 in my eating my way to a healthier me to meet up with Mickey (1 month and 16 days to go)

Today’s plan is to NOT go to Dunkin Donuts.  Dunkin Donuts has recently built a shop in the lovely town of Lake Bluff.  This is not good news to someone who is a sugar addict and who loves butter crunch donuts, Boston cream donuts, apple fritters, French crullers and more…  Also I can’t ever buy one donut.  I want 2 or 3 or 4 with my cup of coffee.  So today’s plan is to NOT go there.

I shared a delicious salad for lunch today with Mike.  So far, so good.  For dinner I am making baked salmon and baked sweet potato with grilled asparagus.  Just thinking about how it will look on my plate: pink salmon, soft orange sweet potato, complimented by green asparagus delectably seared to perfection, makes me salivate.  Color means a lot to me on my plate.  I like lots of color, and when that color turns out to be a delicious combination, it’s a win-win situation.

Today’s plan is to concentrate on the healthy foods that I will treat myself with today.  Truly treat myself, because my body will LOVE these foods for fuel.  And to just get through this day without hopping onto my car and heading to Dunkin Donuts.

Pray for me, Dear Readers.  I am not good at resisting when the sugar cravings come.  I think today is a minute by minute deal.  I won’t get into my car for the next minute, then I’ll opt to not go in the next minute, etc…  I believe I can do this one minute at a time.  “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13  Help me, Jesus!

Double Feature

Day 383 in my stumbling toward Mickey

Well, it appears that I have strep throat.  Today I start antibiotics and hopefully I will start to feel better and get rid of this fever, too.

Today’s plan is to rest up and watch a couple of Disney movies.  I think Tangled first and then maybe Big Hero Six or Brave.  I figure it’s research for our trip in October.  🙂

Better Days Are Coming

Day 381 in my dragging toward Mickey

Well, Dear Readers, I am in a funk.  I don’t really know why.  I think it may be the remnants of whatever bug I had over the weekend.  I am tired, my joints ache, and I am craving sugar.  I feel like I could crawl under the covers and sleep for a week.

So today’s plan is to soldier on and just let myself feel this way until I don’t feel this way anymore.  It’s not a “woe is me” moment.  It’s just a low energy, not feeling quite right moment.

Getting On With It

Day 379 in my marching toward Mickey

Today’s plan was to start moving again.  My throat is feeling quite a bit better, so I wanted to get a few things done.  First thing on the agenda?  Soak in the sauna for awhile, then shower and head back to the house.  Then I tackled three weeks of laundry.  Now I can chill for the evening and continue to rest up my throat for work tomorrow.

Mike made it safely to the U.P. and back.  He gave his sister a ride to stay with their mom for a month and a half.  I was going to go with them, until I woke up with the sore throat and cough last Friday.  Oh, well.

More tomorrow.  Meet you at the Kingdom!

Worn Out

Day 378 in moving toward Mickey

Today’s plan was to rest up.  I’ve had two fairly sleepless nights, and I now have a sore throat.  So today I have had a a quiet stay-at-home day with plenty of naps and plenty of liquids.  Here’s hoping I feel more on top of my game tomorrow.

God bless your day!

Sugar Funk

Day 376 in my realizations on the way to meeting Mickey

Well, dear friends, today I have been in a funk for no apparent reason.

  1. The weather was a cool 65 to 74 degrees, and that’s my kind of weather.  Perfect.
  2. I had a busy and successful day at work, accomplishing all that I hoped to.
  3. Mike’s sister came into town , and I always enjoy visiting with her.

So here’s what I think.  I think that sugar has crept back into my diet, slowly and insidiously.  I haven’t been as careful about reading labels and tracking down nutritional information on my food choices. And most telling I been craving sugar again something fierce.

That’s got to be it now.  I am back on it, and I will be tenacious in my food choices.  Back to label reading, back to cooking more and ordering in less, and less eating out.

Hopefully in the next week this sugar-funk will lift and I can get back to enjoying this journey.  I’ll keep you posted.

Cleaned and Flummoxed

Day 374 in my walk toward meeting Mickey

Today’s plan was to go to my dentist. It was just a routine cleaning…or so I thought. My bridge, which consists of one fake tooth attached to the two teeth next to it, has been feeling loose. Today I found out why. One of the conneted teeth has a cavity in it. Bleck!!  So I have to go back for an hour and a half appointment to take care of it.

Folks, this has just not been my year health-wise. Oh, well. I just keep reminding myself that God is good all the time. And he promises strength to withstand all. *sigh*

Salad Days

Day 373 in making better choices for  when I meet up with Mickey

Today’s plan was to make a healthy choice when we went out to dinner tonight. We ate at Potbelly.  Their sandwiches are amazing!  But I passed on the sandwiches and ordered a Mediterranean salad.  The salad had roasted red peppers, artichokes, feta cheese and much more. I do not regret my choice and would choose it again. Plus I have half of the salad left for lunch tomorrow. 😄

It’s storming here tonight so that’s it for today. Meet you at the Kingdom!
